We are developing subsurface optical-fiber sensors and advancing a computer-simulation code for monitoring the underground hydraulics of low-flowing oil and gas reservoirs. The remote sensing of subsurface phenomena is a focus for various energy concerns (microseismicity, borehole-fluid monitoring) and national security concerns (tunnel detection and explosion, industrial applications, and port monitoring).
