Manufacturing Molecules for the Carbon Economy

Eric Duoss | 19-SI-005

Executive Summary

Our goal is to fundamentally redesign chemical reactors using a multiscale approach that integrates science, engineering, and computation. If successful, we will demonstrate that moving away from expensive large-scale chemical plants to distributed and economical chemical reactor networks using electricity produced by renewable energy sources can transform a harmful waste product, carbon dioxide, into high-value hydrocarbon feedstocks with low molecular weight, thus supporting the nation’s energy and resource security.
