Connecting Nuclear Structure to Stellar Astrophysics: Neutron Skin in Tin Isotopes

Jack Silano | 19-LW-004

Executive Summary

We are developing a novel method for systematically studying the evolution of the nuclear equation of state of two isotopes of tin by measuring their low-energy nuclear dipole strength over a broad range of neutron-to-proton ratios. Our measurements will support nuclear weapons science by providing highly accurate experimental data for improving microscopic nuclear models and calculations of astrophysical nucleosynthesis and neutron star structure.
