Examining an On-the-Fly Movable Boundary Capability for Simulations of Unsteady High-Speed Aerothermodynamic Flows

Gregory Burton | 19-FS-045

Executive Summary

We will examine the feasibility of moving small-scale aeroshell boundary features caused by damage or ablation on-the-fly during a high-speed fluid dynamics simulation. This capability is essential to explore unsteady thermal and dynamic loading on aeroshell surfaces (such as those of an aerospace vehicle's heat shield) due to damage or ablation.
