Executive Summary
We will develop a first-of-its-kind, implantable optical interface for use with neural implants that employs microfabricated probes and transmitters to capture data and send it as an optical stream, enabling neuroscientists to perform long-term neurological studies of unprecedented complexity in ambulatory animals. While broadly applicable to medical research, this technology supports efforts in chemical and biological countermeasures.
