Beta Decay at the Limits of Nuclear Stability: Integrating Ab Initio Calculations and Kinematically Complete Measurements

Executive Summary

Our goal is to develop a high-precision tool (specifically, a novel ion-trap-based detector system) and a new theoretical formalism for studying nuclear structure at the limits of stability. If successful, this system will overcome the shortcomings of current beta decay spectroscopy, provide the best understanding yet of strong and weak nuclear forces, and enable significant advances in the field of nuclear physics.
