Direct Measurement of Mass-Temperature Distributions in the Core of Implosions on the National Ignition Facility

Daniel Thorn | 18-ERD-015

Executive Summary

We are conducting basic science experiments using a newly developed approach to x-ray spectroscopy to elucidate the nature (temperature, density, constituency, etc.) of stagnating plasma found in inertial-confinement fusion implosions. This research will impact future inertial-confinement fusion designs and data interpretation, as well as nuclear stockpile stewardship and weapons science.
