Automatic Design of Transport Systems Through Topology Optimization on Adaptively Refined Computational Grids

Victor Beck | 19-ERD-035

Executive Summary

Our goal is to develop a novel algorithm-based tool for the design and simulation of next-generation fluid-, gas-, and mass-transport systems, including topology optimization and adaptive mesh refinement. If successful, this will be the first such tool capable of automatically designing arbitrary transport systems, such as heat exchangers, mass exchangers and reactors, electrochemical systems, and more, making it broadly applicable across national missions.
