Executive Summary

We will determine the mechanism of hydrogen embrittlement of structural metals using multiscale characterization techniques and explore ways to tailor microstructures to mitigate hydrogen embrittlement. These insights will advance national security and critical energy and industrial infrastructure by permitting the use of innovative alloys and safer designs for hydrogen applications.
