Overcoming Cycling Limitations for High-Energy-Density Lithium-Ion Batteries

Executive Summary

We will demonstrate a lithium-ion battery electrode design and study the formation of metal growths (dendrites) that limit lithium-ion battery performance and lead to overheating and explosions. If successful, our findings will pave the way to safe, durable lithium-ion batteries supporting grid storage and enabling mobile devices and electric cars to reliably operate longer between charges.
