Executive Summary

Our development of novel, synthetic nanopores will increase our understanding of how biological signals are transmitted on the nanoscale level. The resulting neuron-inspired platform will also lay the groundwork for creating complex biomimetic systems, including artificial neurons, while the nanofluidic phenomena studied will enable future ionic circuitry, separation techniques, and drug delivery systems.
