Executive Summary
We are using laser-plasma techniques and diagnostics (i.e., x-ray and proton radiography, optical imaging, velocity interferometry, and sample capture) to study the transport, interaction, and recollection of high-velocity metal ejecta generated when a strong shock wave in metal interacts with surface defects at a vacuum or gas interface. This research supports nuclear weapons stockpile stewardship.
