Executive Summary

We propose to perform large-scale numerical simulations to calculate the nuclear interactions of protons and neutrons directly and repeat the calculation for possible dark matter interactions using an algorithm we develop that is more efficient than those used currently. This research is the first and necessary step toward building our quantitative understanding of nuclear physics based on the fundamental theory of quantum chromodynamics, which will not only help us understand proton-neutron systems and the lack of structure in dark matter, but also provide data for the nation's nuclear codes.
