Executive Summary
We will develop microwave and acoustic methods to address the most difficult and important characterization challenges (material stress state, defects, material phase, and others) for additively manufactured metallic products, in turn creating an optimization feedback loop to accelerate and improve additive-manufacturing processes. These potentially revolutionary advancements could have broad impact on several national missions, including stockpile stewardship, nuclear threat reduction, biosecurity, and energy security.
