Quantum Cascade Lasers with Submicrosecond Tuning Speed for the Detection of High Explosives and Chemical Warfare Agents

Jerry Carter | 20-FS-044

Executive Summary

We will explore the feasibility of using a quantum cascade laser with submicrosecond tuning speed and fast-detection electronics to detect chemical threats in less than one second at relevant standoff distances and concentrations. If viable, this technology could be developed into a powerful threat-detection capability for military or Department of Homeland Security forces.
