Beta Decay at the Limits of Nuclear Stability: Integrating Ab Initio Calculations and Kinematically Complete Measurements

Executive Summary

Our goal is to develop a high-precision tool (specifically, a novel ion-trap-based detector system) and a new theoretical formalism for studying nuclear structure at the limits of stability. If successful, this system will overcome the shortcomings of current beta-decay spectroscopy, provide the best understanding yet of strong and weak nuclear forces, and enable significant advances in the field of nuclear physics.
