Probabilistic Modeling for Nuclear Fission and Heavy-Ion Collisions

Executive Summary

We are developing new uncertainty quantification tools that will lead to advances in nuclear theory and the interpretation of heavy-ion data. Our new probabilistic modeling capability will result in (1) a novel uncertainty-quantification modeling framework for enabling a predictive theory of nuclear fission, which is important for science-based stockpile stewardship, and (2) a new method for probing the structure of the quark-gluon plasma formed one microsecond after the Big Bang.
