We are exploring the feasibility of using accelerator mass spectrometry to experimentally measure the uranium-239, -240 reaction cross section by quantifying uranium-240 in an irradiated target of depleted uranium. If feasible, this approach will open the door to a wide range of nuclear reaction cross-section measurements that support stockpile stewardship and the forensic analysis of post-nuclear events.
