Executive Summary

We will develop a novel in-process monitoring method for determining the temperature of the melt-pool region during laser powder bed fusion additive manufacturing. This method, which is based on thermionic emission of electrons from the heated metal surface, will generate data to validate computational simulations and will improve the build quality of additively manufactured components.
