Inferring Heat Flow in Laser Absorption Regions using Diagnostic Magnetic Fields

Christopher Walsh | 21-FS-051

Executive Summary

We will explore the feasibility of a new technique for diagnosing heat flow in hohlraum laser absorption regions by tracking the movement of a small applied magnetic field that does not affect heat flow. The method would allow for diagnosis of regions too dense for optical measurements, providing unprecedented data for improving hohlraum predictive capability.
