Developing an Understanding and Control of Electrochemical Deposition Processes for Functional Coatings on Complex Three-Dimensionally Printed Substrates

Executive Summary
Our goal is to enable scientifically informed methodologies and design rules for achieving uniform, conformal, functional coatings on complex three-dimensionally printed polymer and carbon substrates using electroless, electrochemical atomic layer deposition and bulk electrochemical deposition. Developing these capabilities beyond current trial-and-error approaches will bring benefits across the Department of Energy mission space by improving the manufacturing of products such as fuel cells, neural probes, and laser targets.
