Toward a Predictive Exascale-Class Hypersonic Simulation Capability for Damage Lethality Assessment and Weapons Environment Characterization

Gregory Burton | 21-ERD-027

Executive Summary

We will develop large-eddy simulation code techniques to evaluate the likelihood of hypersonic vehicle destruction after damage of the aeroshell caused by kinetic or other energy sources. This work will enhance the predictive analysis of hypersonic vehicle performance significantly, which is necessary for the Department of Defense to meet critical national security needs in hypersonic vehicle development.
