Extending Equation-of-State Measurements to Gigabar Pressures

Executive Summary

We propose to measure the equation-of-state of materials at pressures exceeding 100 megabars, where theoretical models are largely unconstrained by experimental observations. We will modify the gigabar platform at the National Ignition Facility to include temperature measurements, thereby providing crucial experimental data to constrain models used in inertial confinement fusion and stockpile stewardship applications.
