Novel Pathways for Storing Energy

Jonathan Crowhurst | 23-ERD-028

Executive Summary

We will predict novel high energy density materials using first principles theory and evaluate their energetic performance by thermochemical calculation, and we will establish a technologically up-to-date reaction propagation rate experimental capability for rapid evaluation of known and novel high energy density materials. The project will provide a state-of-the art theoretical approach for high energy density materials discovery and a modern experimental capability for the detailed investigation of explosives kinetics and chemistry at detonation-relevant pressures.
