Manipulating the Spin of Nuclei with Nuclear Reactions

Daniel Hoff | 23-LW-016

Executive Summary

We are quantifying a recently discovered nuclear physics phenomenon, where nuclei excited via reactions become spin-polarized, using state-of-the-art accelerator and detector technologies. Understanding this phenomenon will enable future measurements of magnetic moments, while also improving nuclear theory, in nuclei relevant for stockpile stewardship or other national security missions.
