Prediction of Complex Metals' and Alloys' Response to Temperature and Deformation via Handshake Between Experiments and Modeling
Thomas Voisin | 21-LW-027
Executive Summary
We will use transmission electron microscopy and synchrotron x-ray diffraction tensile tests of pure metals with known deformation mechanisms to calibrate and validate next-generation crystal plasticity models that explain and predict mechanical properties of complex alloys. Our results will enable accelerated design and certification of complex materials used to support stockpile stewardship and, more broadly, optimized materials for structural applications.
