Executive Summary

We will explore the feasibility of using the big aperture thulium laser concept to efficiently enable energetic nanosecond to millisecond pulses with arbitrary pulse shapes. The resulting technology would broadly support laboratory missions, including those involving communications, controlled seeding and frequency conversion, and other secondary sources that have the higher average power, shorter wavelength, more compact size, and higher wall plug efficiency required to advance laser-based manufacturing.
