Adverse Neurological Effects of Wildfire Smoke
Bruce Buchholz | 23-ERD-020
Executive Summary
We will ascertain whether particulate matter and specific classes of compounds in particulate matter from wildfire smoke cause neuro-inflammation that leads to progressive neurological degeneration using isotope tracing of labeled particulate matter and major compound classes, biomarkers of neuro-inflammation, and ultrafine combustion particle exposures. The project strives to identify triggers that initiate the majority of Alzheimer’s and other neurodegenerative diseases attributed to environmental factors.
