Laser Amplification with Suppressed Amplified Spontaneous Emission

Executive Summary
We will develop technology to suppress amplified spontaneous emission in neodymium-doped yttrium aluminum garnet amplifiers to generate a substantially more energetic pulse than is currently possible. This will allow the operation of compact high energy lasers with simplified optical architecture as high-intensity laser sources, in defense applications, and in commercial materials processing.
